New Zealand’s Xperia Play Shipment Gets Stolen

Published

on

It seems that Vodafone New Zealand’s batch of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play apparently has been stolen. The company’s Twitter message reads:

“regret to advise the Xperia Play launch will be delayed. Major security breach. The shipment of phones has been stolen”

This follows an unexplained delay for shipments in UK last month and this can’t be a good thing for Sony Ericsson as shortages in components from Japan are already causing a couple of shortages for other devices, so if this batch of shipment really got stolen it’s hard to say when they will be seeing new units. However it seems that TechDayz, an NZ based tech website, thinks that all of this is just a marketing gimmick to create hype for the Xperia Play.

They seem to think that this video further cements their conclusion that this is in fact an attempt to create viral marketing. In the video it shows how a man got his thumbs “stolen”, very much like how Vodafone’s batch of Xperia Plays got stolen too. If this is indeed an attempt at creating viral marketing it seems to be working as the tech world is abuzz with news about this stolen shipment of Xperia Plays.

However if it is indeed true that this shipment of Xperia Plays was indeed stolen, you should all watch out for suspiciously cheap Xperia Plays emerging on eBay and what not.
