Microsoft Is Making Money From Android Phones

Published

on

Despite Windows Phone 7 not doing as well as Microsoft had hoped, it seems that Microsoft has found a way to profit from the sales of HTC Android devices. Yes you heard right because according to Citi Analyst Walter Pritchard, Microsoft is making about $5 per Android device manufactured by HTC. This is because of a patent agreement that they both had agreed on a month ago, although it was not specified exactly what patent was being used by HTC that belongs to Microsoft.

Microsoft is now looking into reaching similar agreements with the other Android smartphone manufacturers, hoping to net about $7.50-$12.50 per device. Pretty clever of Microsoft to be capitalizing on Android devices, one could look at it as a backup plan of sorts in case Windows Phone 7 really does not take off.

Imagine how much Microsoft would be raking in when all their partners for Windows Phone 7 devices start to roll out their products. Patent agreements from Android and Windows Phone 7 licenses. Look who’s laughing now, because it sure won’t be Google.
