On of the drawbacks to being open source is that there is virtually no quality control because anyone can upload anything and in the end it’s really up to the user’s discretion whether or not to download and use the app. While this has led to the creation of some really unique and creative apps it has also paved the way for malware.

According to Juniper Networks who have been studying potential threats to mobile technology, they have found that there has been a 400 percent increase in Android malware. It seems that Google wants you, as the user, to protect yourself. That’s fine and dandy for those who know what they’re doing but what about the rest who are new to this technology but thanks to being plagued by malware due to their lack of knowledge are now put off by Android?

AVG Technologies has also found that there has been a huge increase, three times of that since last year, in malicious campaigns from Android (along with Facebook). Jordan Crook at MobileCrunch says “If hackers have spent their lives devising ways to ruin our computers, what makes us think our precious smartphones are any exception? Food for thought.”
