Google And Sprint To Roll Out NFC Payments?

Published

on

Remember when NXP Semiconductors said that Google was getting serious with NFC? Well it looks like they might have been right on the money because according to Bloomberg who cited three sources claims that Google will be rolling out new NFC payments services come 26th May and they will most likely be teaming up with Sprint.

This is the logical conclusion as the other major carriers Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile have already teamed up with ISIS for NFC payments which means Sprint is the only one left. With so much support for Android handsets and tablets by all the carriers it’s odd that it is only Sprint that has decided to team up with Google. Weirder only by the fact that Sprint is the only one out of the major carriers not to join up with ISIS as it seems to a rather logical conclusion that ISIS would have reached out to Sprint as well.

Either way it looks like despite what the nay-sayers think, NFC payment services will be arriving in a rather large force backed by four of the nations largest carriers and Google. If the sources are true it looks like Sprint and Google will be the first to try out the services in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington D.C
