Future Tablets To Cost $100 Less?

Published

on

If you thought that the recent wave of tablets were kind of pricey, ranging from $450-$500 just for the basic models (the HTC Flyer with the stylus costing an additional $79.99 is a prime example) and to add a hundred or so extra to get the 3G models, then you might want to hold off your purchase just for now.

It seems that thanks to ASUS’s Eee Pad Transformer which is priced at a competitve $399 future tablets running on Android’s Honeycomb 3.1 may very well start seeing their prices being dropped by about $100 in order to keep themselves competitive. There have been speculations that Acer is also reconsidering their price on their Acer Iconia Tab A500 which currently stands at $449 for 16GB and $499 for 32GB.

A recent survey shows that while tablets are on the rise, it seems that only 5% of the US population own tablets, so perhaps it’s due to the current prices that are holding consumers back. If these price adjustments turn out to be true perhaps we will be seeing a surge in the amount of people who own tablets.

However Apple has been known to play by their own rules so with all tablets dropping prices will they follow suit?
