China Unicom’s Super Cheap iPhone Plans

Published

on

First China Unicom had the iPhone and it was the only carrier in China to offer the iPhone. Now with the next generation iPhone it looks like China Mobile is one of Apple’s new partners to bring in the iPhone to the China market, and it seems that China Telecom also wants in on the action. So with potentially 3 carriers offering the iPhone, what can they do in order to compete?

Well it seems like China Unicom’s president Li Yumin told reporters late Tuesday had started offering a ultra low-cost iPhone plan at 66 Yuan a month which roughly converts to $10 which is now a third cheaper than what they had priced before. This was a move to prevent their subscribers from jumping ship, especially now that China Mobile is going to be offering the next generation iPhone, I guess China Unicom will be wanting to keep as many of their customers as possible.

I wonder how the pricing will look like when the next generation iPhone hits China, probably not as cheap but if China Unicom wants to stay competitive they will probably need to put out some pretty competitive plans too.
