Brazil’s World Cup Host Cities First To Get LTE Upgrade

Planning on attending the World Cup held in Brazil in 2014? If you are it looks like you may be able to enjoy 4G speeds in the host cities where the games are being held. The Brazilian government has just announced that the host cities will be the first in line to get 4G service.

Unfortunately, it’s still not clear exactly when that will happen. According to a government official, they said that companies will have to go through a bidding process to win the contract for the network, which should presumably roll out sometime before the World Cup kicks off in three years’ time.

As we had written earlier, it seems that SK Telecom has expressed interest in launching LTE services in Brazil, perhaps they might be one of the companies that will be bidding for the contract. LTE coverage will be great especially during the world cup where there will be many people updating their tweets and blogs and Facebook statuses as the matches progress. If anything this is as good a time as any for Brazil to finally get their network upgrades underway.
