Apple’s iPhone 5 to get Thunderbolt

With Thunderbolt being one of the key feature selling points in most of Apple’s devices, i.e. the new generation iMac and the MacBook Pro it wouldn’t really come as a shock if Apple decided that the iPhone 5 would include that technology as well.

So what benefit would there be to having Thunderbolt technology on the iPhone 5? Well apart from the obvious faster charge times and transfer speeds, Charlie Demerjian down at SemiAccurate seems to think that this is just a ploy by Apple to maintain their monopoly and at the same time charge exorbitant prices for the technology. The question he raised was why would Apple choose to use Thunderbolt when the majority of devices out there don’t support it, it’s harder to design in and cost more? So basically unless you are using a Mac that supports Thunderbolt it will be interesting to see what the rest of the PC users out there will feel about it.

Of course this only speculation but at the same time seems to make quite a bit of sense too. The only thing we can do now is wait for the iPhone 5 to be officially announced before we can make any further judgements.
