Android Malware: DroidDream Light

Published

on

Thanks to the good folks at Lookout, a mobile security company, they have spotted a new Android malware named DroidDream Light, presumably created by the same developers who created DroidDream. The malware has been identified in over 25 applications and has infected as many as 30,000-120,000 users to date.

How it works is that malicious components of DroidDream Light are activated during incoming voice calls. The broadcast receiver then contacts remote servers and supplies the IMEI, IMSI, Model, SDK Version and information about installed packages.

For future reference, make sure that your downloads come from trusted sources and check for permissions and ad requests, also mobile security apps such as Lookout will come in handy. For the list of affected apps (which have since been removed from the Android Market) check it out after the break.
