We all know that Nokia will be closing the doors on Symbian when the Finnish handphone manufacturer starts rolling out WP7 phones later this year. However, according to reports, it looks like Nokia are far from settled on a strategy with Windows Phone 7 at the moment. Apparently Nokia will continue releasing Symbian phones in 2011 and 2012, something they’ve branded as the “transition period.” Nokia plans to get as many WP7 customers as possible, and in order to do so, they want to make the end of Symbian device’s life feel like a natural progression to WP7 when they finally do get around to making such handsets. They’ve announced that the next batch of Symbian phones will be more powerful with GHz+ processing capabilities, faster graphics speeds, a major Symbian update this summer to give a new homescreen, new flexible widgets, new icons, a faster browser, new Navbar and many other changes. While it is good that they continue to support their Symbian phones, it sure looks like Nokia is trying hard to hold on to their dear operating system, and focusing their efforts on updating an OS doesn’t seem like the best way to spend resources – why not just focus on WP7 phones instead?
