Nokia seeks patent for an N8 like tablet

Nokia has been quiet for a long time when it comes to tablets and it seems that the deadlock has finally been broken. Nokia has gone ahead and filed a patent for a tablet form-factor device with the The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The filing is for a very N8-like tablet and Nokia did file a similar patent back in May 2010. The semblance to the Nokia N8 smartphone does not seem a mere coincidence and Nokia might be trying to do something what Samsung did with its Galaxy smartphone. It was the success of the Galaxy lineage smartphones which prompted Sammy to introduce the Galaxy tablets. The drawings reveal that the Nokia tablet has a 3.5mm audio jack while there are additional ports on display, one of which could be an HDMI out. The patent filing drawings have been revealed by USPTO and it is unclear whether Nokia has shelved this project or not. It could be interesting if Nokia comes out with an N8 derivative tablet, but the chances are meager as the N8 itself hasn’t been greatly lauded.
