Dick Costolo, CEO of Twitter has put to rest all rumors of a Twitter-branded handset, dashing all hopes of us ever owning a phone specifically built to tweet. But then again, do we really need a phone to do that? Sure, 40% of all tweets were posted from phones, but that doesn’t mean there is a need for a “Twitter-phone”, or is there? With a plethora of free apps available on all phones, and the mobile web interface for the micro-blogging service being more than enough for users to tweet with (in fact you can even tweet by sending a text message!) it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a need for a Twitter-phone anytime soon. Then again, didn’t Mark Zuckerberg do the same thing earlier this year when he said there wouldn’t be a Facebook phone?
