Pelican Imaging intends to place 25 micro-cameras in cellphones
Pelican Imaging has come up with a totally new camera design meant for cellphones. Instead of increasing the megapixel to give you a better image like what companies have been doing nowadays, Pelican Imaging is going in a different direction instead. They have come up with a camera module that uses 25 micro-cameras instead of a single camera lens – it works by capturing multiple images and with the use of post-processing software, these separate images can be assembled together to create one high-quality photo. Sounds interesting? You bet, though I have a feeling it’s not going to be as fast as regular cameras unless you can choose to do the processing later and continue to take photos first. With so many lens on one module, it might be a bit pricey too, but let’s wait until we see it in action before we jump to conclusions. Pelican Imaging is planning to license the technology to phone manufacturers, though we haven’t got an exact date to when we’ll start seeing it in our phones.
