Today at the Mobile World Congress, NVIDIA gave the world a preview of their upcoming processor. Codenamed KAL-EL (though also referred to as Tegra 3 before), this new processor will be the successor to their hit dual-core processor, the Tegra 2. KAL-EL is a quad-core chip with a GPU 3 times faster than one in Tegra 2, and an overall performance that is 5 times better than the Tegra 2. The chip will be capable of supporting Extreme HD resolutions – 2560 x 1600, so if you’re thinking that it would be impossible for the iPad 2 to have Retina Display resolution, think again. Despite such massive upgrades to the performance and capabilities of the chip, NVIDIA has taken into consideration the power usage of the processor as well, and they’ve managed to make it more power efficient than the Tegra 2.Expect the chip to make its way to mobile devices later this year.
