According to some reports online, an analyst from Telecom Pragmatics has stated that Apple won’t be releasing the 4G LTE iPhone this year. The iPhone that is due for a refresh in a few months, won’t be packing any LTE radios to provide 4G support, instead, the iPhone that launches in 2012 will be Apple’s first 4G phone instead. Apparently Apple didn’t expect this level of hardware competition back when they were locking down the specs for the iPhone 5 and because of that, the iPhone 5 won’t be transferring data at blazing fast speeds. A reasonable explanation for the lack of 4G, but knowing Apple, the lack of 4G on their phones could have been done on purpose – just like how they released a gimped 1st generation iPhone and only introduced all the missing features in the generation after it. Well, there’s still quite some time to go before any official iPhone 5 announcement is made, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for rumors. There’s bound to be plenty.
