VoIP and SIP features hidden in Windows Phone 7 registry
There have been recent rumors about Microsoft working on a competitor to Apple’s FaceTime, and while there aren’t any Windows Phone 7 devices with front facing cameras, it looks like the operating system has got the capabilities built-in. The folks over at Neowin dug through the phone’s registry and found registry keys for Sip and VoIP. If you’re unfamiliar with these terms, Session Initiation Protocol is used for video calls over the internet and Voice over Internet Protocol is used for voice calling over the internet. These functions also lead to the possibility of Skype (and other VoIP apps) coming to the Windows Phone 7 platform. Well, for now there aren’t any apps to take advantage of these features, but I’m sure it won’t be too long before Microsoft allows developers access to the functions on their operating system.
