At CES 2011 last week, RIM’s CEO Mike Lazaridis was questioned about BlackBerry “super phones” in an interview with PCMag, and he confirmed that we will be seeing QNX phones in the future. A release date wasn’t mentioned though, but Lazaridis made it clear that RIM were in no hurry. The phones will arrive someday, just not anytime soon. In the interview Lazaridis mentioned that RIM has got a 10-year plan for the company and QNX phones are part of it. At the moment, RIM isn’t satisfied with the battery life, size, weight, thickness and costs of these so-called “Super Phones”, hence the delay. And they also believe in serving the world first instead of letting technology what they create – most of the world is still on 2G and 3G networks, so to them there’s no point in bringing 4G devices yet. Well, he seems very confident with RIM’s direction – it’s his company after all. What do you think about RIM delaying the release of a high-end BlackBerry to compete against Android phones and the iPhone? Will it be too late by then?
