Only 51% of Americans understand 4G

Oh how uninformed we are. While carriers have been shoving the term 4G down everybody’s throats, it looks like they haven’t been doing a good job in educating the public. In a recent survey about 4G done by the Nielsen Company on 2,100 American adults, only 83% of them were aware of 4G. Out of the 83% that were aware, only 51% of them had a clue what it really was. And out of the 49% that got the definition of 4G wrong, 27% of them thought that the iPhone 4 is a 4G device. Very interesting results, especially when the only carrier that hasn’t been doing the 4G marketing (AT&T) has one of its devices (the iPhone 4) branded as 4G (despite it being constantly ridiculed in T-Mobile adverts). This shows that people don’t really pay any attention to the phone adverts they see. This means that carriers aren’t doing a good enough job, or the public just aren’t bothered about it. Do you know 4G really is? Head here to read the full report from the Nielsen Company.
