Finally, some action from RIM. It seems like other than their PlayBook tablet, the Canadian-based company haven’t shown themselves in the limelight for awhile especially with their BlackBerry devices. And now, it looks like there’s a new BlackBerry phone that’s coming to town. Codenamed the Dakota, the BlackBerry device looks similar to the current Bold phone but instead of a regular display, it will feature a 2.8″ capacitive touchscreen (640 x 480) in addition to the QWERTY keyboard that BlackBerry devices are known for. It will have a 5 megapixel camera capable of recording HD video, and 4GB of internal storage as well as 768MB of RAM to make it happen. The processor used is still unknown, but it should be pretty beefy if it has to support HD video recording, though we know it won’t be dual-core. Other features of the phone include native 3G mobile hotspot, NFC connectivity, WiFi N, Bluetooth, a MicroUSB port and it will ship with the latest BlackBerry OS – 6.1. No details about pricing and availability, but expect RIM to say something at the Mobile World Congress next month. A BlackBerry device worth getting excited for? What do you think?
