Reports are in that Microsoft is busy working on an app for Windows Phone 7 that will offer direct access to IPTV streaming and control. If the rumors are accurate, the new client is codenamed Rome and will be able to access any Mediaroom-based service, such as the Xbox 360. It isn’t clear when the app will be released, but the project kicked off last year and speculation is that it’ll launch this year. Rome is slated to be part of a three-year plan, dubbed Thunderbay, a project that will see the Entertainment and Devices group unify its media efforts that already has video on the PC and TV, but not on mobile.
