The Wall Street Journal has reported that Google will be launching an Android digital newsstand app which will allow users to buy digital copies of newspapers and magazines. In attempt to draw publishers away from Apple, Google will be taking less than 30% of their earnings– Apple currently takes 30% from publishers for using iTunes to sell their magazines. Will Google do it better than Apple? I have a feeling that unless content providers actually sell their digital copies for much cheaper than the physical versions or make the content especially for the operating system rather than just a digital conversion of the printed magazine- it’s not going to have very positive results. Either way, it means more content for Android tablet users – after all, with the influx of Android tablets this year, a lot more people are going to be using them to read magazines and newspapers. What do you think of an Android digital newsstand?
