The FCC has approved of a proposal that will require LTE technology to be used for public safety mobile broadband networks utilized by first responders. The regulations specify that LTE will be the standard for interoperability between broadband equipment used for communicating information, videos, photos and emails during standard operations and emergencies. The FCC also noted problems identified by the 9/11 Commission, which suggested the government set aside additional spectrum for public safety purposes and improve communication between agencies involved in emergency response.
