Looks like AT&T has found themselves on the wrong side of the law. According to a lawsuit recently filed against them, AT&T has been accused of overcharging customers for iPad and iPhone data usage. According to a description by the prosecutor, Patrick Hendricks, AT&T’s overcharging was equivalent to “a rigged gas tank that charges pump that charges for a full gallon when it pumps only nine-tenths of a gallon into your car’s tank.” – meaning that users were being billed for data they weren’t using. All this information was confirmed during a 2-month study of AT&T’s billing practices for data usage. While it didn’t add up to a lot for the individual customers, collectively it contributed a huge amount to the carrier’s $4.9 billion revenue for Q4 2010. If AT&T is found to be guilty of such practices, they could be in hot soup. Stay tuned for more updates on the case.
