App Store downloads are definitely a big business for Apple at the moment, but it seems that many folks didn’t realize how big the app download scene has become. Research is in that the App Store might overtake the iTune Store in terms of downloads sometime this March. It was noted that it should take the App Store just 31 months to hit the 10 billion download mark, which is less than half the 67 months it took the iTunes Store to hit 10 billion songs. Apple has been clocking in about 30 million app downloads per day and the rate is also increasing.
On a related note, folks have noticed that the iOS apps might be helping Apple tie its customers into its iOS ecosystem since it might be costly to repurchase all those apps for another platform, such as Android or Windows Phone 7. So if you’ve spent about $15-$50 or more on apps, you probably wouldn’t way to pay that money again when you buy a Nexus S, would you?
