Next version of Android to be called Ice Cream Sandwich

It looks like the next version of Android has been named. No not Honeycomb, but the one after that. In case you didn’t know, Google has been naming each version of Android after a dessert, in alphabetical order, with the few most recent ones being Éclair (2.1), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3), Honeycomb (2.4) and now we have the name for the next version – Ice Cream Sandwich. Previously thought to be just Ice Cream, Andy Rubin mentioned to the folks at TechCrunch the change in name was due to the fact that an ice cream statue in front of the Google offices would look too much like Froyo, and so they have decided to add the sandwich behind it. Not that the naming would affect the operating system anyway, but it’s nice to know that Google takes the time to detail even naming conventions like these. It’s still unknown what we can expect from it, but what we do know is right now all eyes are on Honeycomb.
