In addition to their new Symbian app, Google also released a new version of their YouTube app for Android. At version 2.1, this marks the first YouTube app that’s only available on Froyo (Android 2.2) handsets and it is also the first time that it can be downloaded independently of an Android OS update. YouTube 2.1 brings a noticeable amount of changes to the app. Firstly; it’s been redesigned to bring the desktop experience to the mobile phone. You now have in-page playback, descriptions, the ability to participate in discussions, video ratings and links to related content. The app is available now, so if you’re running Android 2.2, head over to the Android Market to download it. The app will come pre-installed on future Android 2.3 phones (i.e. the Nexus S).
