Windows Phone 7 might need 2 years to catch up to iPhone and Android

At the D: Dive Into Mobile conference today, Microsoft’s VP Joe Belfiore refused to talk about numbers but he suggested that Windows Phone 7 might take as long as 2 years to catch up to iPhone and Android. Throughout the interview he had with a Wall Street Journal reporter, he constantly dodged and avoided questions which pertained to the sales figures of their latest mobile operating system. Initial rumors of the its sales figures haven’t been too encouraging, and Microsoft refusing to publish or announce any figures seem to cement the rumors into facts. Well, to be fair, WP7 is barely a month old- not many people are too keen on dipping their toes into something totally new and there aren’t too many models to choose from. Let’s not forget the missing features from the operating system at launch. With such a huge ad campaign behind the phone, hopefully in 2011 Microsoft’s efforts will pay off. What do you think is lacking in WP7 that is holding back from being extremely successful?
