Make your Windows Phone 7 lock screen transparent

Published

on

An interesting feature for Windows Phone 7 has popped up online recently. Apparently you can use transparent images for your lock screen on your WP7 phone. This will enable you to see what’s behind your lockscreen despite your phone still being locked. All you need to do is just transfer an image with a transparent background for this to work. Since jpegs can’t be transparent, you’ll need to save the image in a format such as PNG. But because Zune won’t let you sync non-jpeg files to your phone, you’ll need to transfer the image using another method such as through an email attachment. Save the image on your phone, open it, and set it as your wallpaper. Viola! You have a transparent lock screen for your WP7 device now. Animations and live tiles that move or update while the screen is locked will move or update even when the phone is locked. This takes WP7 customization up one level. Now let’s see what kind of creative lockscreens people will come up with in the future. Watch a video of the transparent lockscreen in action after the break:
