Viewsonic comes clean about why the G-Tablet was recalled
Viewsonic’s G-Tablet, has been pulled from some retailer’s shelves over the weekend apparently due to some “manufacturing defect”. But according to Viewsonic, the ones at fault are Android and Adobe Flash- not their hardware. Viewsonic mentioned that they will be releasing an over the air (OTA) software update by the end of the week that will address the UI problems with their Tap ‘n’ Tap UI (users will be able to turn it off) as well as other fixes. And like the Advent Vega reported previously, the Viewsonic G-Tablet will have its Flash Player removed as it hasn’t been thoroughly tested by Adobe to be a fully certified device. The issue should be resolved by January 2011 as well. With quite a number of Android tablets being recalled due to unforeseen problems, it looks like manufacturers are just rushing to get their products onto the market in time for the holiday season. Sure it might be a great period to sell the devices, but it feels like manufacturers are skipping tests and quality control of their devices. Let’s hope the next wave of Android tablets won’t suffer from the same fate.
