The Nexus S is the official Gingerbread phone

Following the announcement of Gingerbread (Android 2.3), Google has made it known that the first phone to be carrying their operating system will be the Samsung Nexus S. Previously rumored to be delayed, shown in pictures and at the recent Web 2.0 conference- has finally been officially announced by none other than Google themselves. The phone that we’ve all been waiting so patiently for will come loaded with stock Android 2.3 (no Samsung modifications here) for the “pure Google” experience which ensures it will always get the latest Android updates first. The Samsung Nexus S runs on a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor (found in the Galaxy S) with a 4″ Super AMOLED Contour Display, 512MB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Near Field Communication (NFC- which should be a standard in upcoming Gingerbread phones), a 5 megapixel camera with flash, and a VGA front facing camera. The combination of Gingerbread’s new features matched together with Samsung’s top-notch hardware should make this phone the phone to beat (at least until the new dual-core phones start arriving next year). The Samsung Nexus S will go on sale at all Best Buy stores on December 16^th for $529 unlocked, and $199 on a 2-year contract with T-Mobile.
