It seems like the creators of SoundHound are feeling extremely generous this holiday season. They have just updated the free version of their app to allow users to identify an unlimited amount of songs instead of the usual 5 a month. It’s uncertain how long this free period will last, but if it’s a permanent change, SoundHound is going to see a lot of people switch over to their free service. With apps like Angry Birds proving that ad-based revenue is a viable way to earn money, we’re going to see a lot more free apps in the future. Looks like Shazam and MusicID will need to match SoundHound or offer something better – if not they’ll be losing a lot of customers real soon.
