In a press release by the NFC Forum, they have just announced the launch of their NFC Forum Certification Program and will be hosting an event that will take place tomorrow in Paris. The certification problem basically grants device manufacturers a way to ensure their NFC devices are compliant with the forum’s technical specifications. “Only companies whose products pass certification testing will be able to display the N-Mark, the universal symbol for NFC, which tells consumers where to touch to initiate NFC services on a device.” NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology which allows devices to almost instantly create a connection with each other just by being in proximity. Uses for this technology include using a phone as a virtual train/bus ticket, as a mobile wallet, and more. With Eric Schmidt talking about NFC on the Nexus S a while ago at the Web 2.0 Summit and the rumored announcement of Gingerbread today, there’s a possibility of a relation between the two NFC-related events happening back-to-back. Will Google’s new phone running Gingerbread have the N-Mark?
