Motorola Android updates site updated

The site which lists the upgrades that their Android phones will be getting in the future has been updated, and the future doesn’t look too bright for a lot of their lower end and older Android phones. Some phones will be stuck on Android 1.5 and 1.6, while others have got their Éclair (Android 2.1) updates delayed, and quite a number will remain stuck on 2.1. It’s either a case of unsupported hardware or laziness and unwillingness of the company to provide new updates for their devices. Looks like users will have to turn to rooting/custom ROMs if they wish to upgrade their operating system or they will have to purchase a new phone. The lack of 2.2 could also mean one thing – Motorola has no intentions of working on so many updates at the same time because it has been officially stated that Gingerbread (Android 2.3) will run on all phones that can run Froyo (2.2). If Motorola does upgrade those devices to 2.2, users will expect 2.3 as well. With almost all users stuck on their device with a 2-year plan, it seems a little unfair to learn that your phone has been shelved before the contract has been completed. I guess that’s just part of life… and business. Click here to go to the Android upgrades page.
