KIN Studio closing next year

Well, it looks like the second coming of KIN didn’t turn out to be as successful as hoped. I guess not many phones can make a comeback after bombing the first attempt- consumers are hard to please. Over the weekend some KIN owners received a letter from Verizon telling them that the KIN studio will close permanently on January 31, 2011. This means that all KIN users will not be able to do anything except use the Zune Pass over WiFi, surf with the web browser and email. Features that won’t be available are- posting on social networks sites, reading news feeds, Search Near me, Loop, and so on. This takes away the whole “social” aspect of KIN, which was the point of the phone in the first place, and it looks like the end of the road for KIN is here (again). Well at least Verizon gave it a shot. The good thing about this bad news is that all KIN users will be able to pick up a 3G phone of their choice for free. So if you’re one of the few people who bought a KIN, don’t be sad- at least you’ll be getting a new phone after all. Let’s say goodbye to the KIN a second time.
