Japanese input for Windows Phone 7 in development

When Windows Phone 7 was launched, it didn’t arrive with any support for Asian languages such as Chinese and Japanese. Looks like some folks can’t wait until next year for those languages to be supported and have come up with their own solution instead. A Japanese developer named kaorun has released a prototype version of an app called Flickpad X2 that allows you to input Japanese characters in WP7. At the moment, the app isn’t available on the Windows Marketplace, so you’ll need an unlocked/developer phone to try it out, the .xap file can be downloaded from the developer’s blog. While this isn’t official WP7 Japanese support, this should keep you folks happy until the official language support has been released by Microsoft. It’s apps like these that show the WP7 developer community going pretty strongly – definitely a good sign of things to come. Watch a video of Flickpad X2 in action after the break:
