Speech or language delay- a term used to describe children who have difficulty communicating their basic needs and wants do to the presence of difficulties pronouncing some sounds, stuttering, autism, or a specific language disorder. If you have or know of a child who is suffering from this problem, there is now an app for that- in fact there are 15 different apps for that. Barbara Fernandes, M.S, CCC-SLP, a practicing speech and language pathologist, has come up with 15 different apps on the iPhone to help children having problems with speech delay. These apps basically help kids learn to pronounce “difficult” words through trial and repetition in the form of an activity. By listening and repeating, over a period of time, children will gradually be able to speak those words clearly. Though these apps aren’t meant to replace therapy or sessions with adults, who would’ve thought that a phone would be able to help a child get over speech problems? After they’re done learning, they can use the very same phone to make confident phone calls. An iPhone loaded with speech apps? Sounds like a great present that kids would love, considering how kids are choosing over video game consoles these days anyway. Head over to Smarty Ears Apps for more details.
