For the impatient but less adventurous folks who want to experience Gingerbread (Android 2.3), and don’t feel like going through the hassle of hacking up their phone to load up a custom ROM, there is now a way to experience part of Gingerbread on your phones. Someone managed to extract the Gingerbread launcher/home screen and has uploaded it as an app in the Android Market. It’s been noted that aside from making it compatible with Android 2.2, nothing has been modified. So it should work just like the launcher on the Nexus S when it ships with Gingerbread. Expect more bits and pieces of Android 2.3 to be ported to Android in the coming weeks before any other phone officially gets the update. Look for the Gingerbread Launcher in the Android Market.
