It looks like Apple has a soft spot for the natives of the land- it has been recently discovered that Apple has incorporated Cherokee language support into iOS. Surprised? It’s because Apple didn’t make any official announcement about it, and until it was made known by the Associated Press, most people probably wouldn’t have known either. Apparently three years ago, the Cherokee tribal leaders had a meeting with Apple about implementing native support for their ancient tongue – in fear of their language dying out with the newer generation. Looks like Apple heeded their requests and included native support for the over 200 year old language. Only 8,000 of the 290,000 members of the Cherokee tribe still speak the language, with most of them adopting the English language to communicate with instead. It’s nice to see Apple doing these sort of favors to help preserve culture by using technology.
