Android 2.3 has no minimum processor requirement
Recently there have been rumors of the latest version of Android requiring a 1GHz processor to run. It was reported back in June and debunked by Google’s Dan Morrill, and yesterday it was debunked again. A customer asked LG USA Mobile on their Facebook page if their LG Optimus S would be getting the update to Gingerbread (Android 2.3). The response from LG was: “…the Optimus line won’t be getting the Gingerbread update because they have a 600MHz processor, and the minimum requirements for Gingerbread require 1 GHz processor…” Not too long later, Dan Morrill posted a tweet saying, “Random note: there’s no hard minimum processor requirement for Gingerbread. Trust me, if there were I’d know.” It looks like phones that are running Android 2.2 now should be running Android 2.3 sometime in the near future- depending on how fast their manufacturers/carriers work to get the update pushed out. Which phone do you think will see the update first?
