While analysts are claiming that 2011 will be the year of the tablet and smartphones, other analysts are looking beyond those devices. Yes, it’s very likely to be dominated by the sheer amount of tablets and smartphones that will be released in 2011, what’s interesting is if you look at what’s powering the devices instead. Most of the tablets and smartphones announced for next year will be powered by NVIDIA’s dual-core Tegra 2 processor. Google has been heavily testing Honeycomb (an upcoming version of Android) with a Tegra tablet, and if they support it, a lot of manufacturers will be following suit as well. With recent reports of Samsung placing a “sizeable order with NVIDIA for Tegra 2 chips in the first half of 2011, geared for both tablets and smartphones” – it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the next Galaxy Tab or high-end smartphone running on an NVIDIA processor either. It is still too early to tell if NVIDIA will dominate the dual-core processor field – as other manufacturers have yet to release their babies in the wild yet, but having an early start will definitely give them a boost in this competition. What do you think?
