Windows Phone 7 has a kill switch
Microsoft has just revealed that embedded inside their Windows Phone 7 operating system, it has a kill switch that will allow software controllers to remotely kill apps and remove them from handsets if they pose a security or privacy risk. So if there are malicious programs or trojan horses hiding in a WP7 app, Microsoft can easily get rid of it. They can remove apps that somehow made it through the app approval process on the Marketplace, or apps that were once approved but somehow ended up breaking some guidelines. Though Microsoft don’t plan to use the kill switch unless necessary, it allows users to have peace of mind in the event of a malicious software epidemic. But even though this kill switch is meant to be a security benefit for WP7 users, what would happen if the wrong people manage to find a way to abuse it? All sorts of havoc could be easily wrecked with this much power. What are your thoughts of a kill switch in your phone’s operating system?
