According to an interesting article by Gigaom, it raises some questions about Samsung’s recent shift in priorities. They had mentioned that they will be only making 24 Android phones for every 50 Windows Phone 7 devices next year. What are the reasons behind Samsung’s sudden switch? Android has been doing very well for them, as evident from the sales of their Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab devices. Is it because of the oversaturation of Android in the market? There are so many devices and manufacturers using the platform now, it would be much harder to stand out in the sea of Android phones and tablets if they continued pushing it, whereas if they chose to go with WP7 instead, there are only a handful of devices to compete against in the mean time. Maybe Samsung has seen something in WP7 that signifies a greater potential than Android could ever hope to achieve? Maybe they’re shifting the focus of Android onto their other devices like their TVs instead of mobile phones? While we’ll never know the reason until Samsung gives it to us, it’s going to be interesting to see what the Korean manufacturer can do with the WP7 platform. Any thoughts about their decision?
