Sprint might be Clearwire’s last chance at staying alive

If you didn’t already know, Clearwire, one of the country’s leading providers of 4G WiMax, is in deep trouble. It was recently announced that they have less than 12 months of capital to survive and they have been laying off staff, delaying their products and build-outs in order to reduce their expenses. If a miracle doesn’t happen, Clearwire might cease to exist in the not too distant future. But despite Clearwire’s dire state, Dan Hesse, the CEO of Sprint didn’t confirm if they would be giving Clearwire any funds to help them out. Sprint owns 54% of Clearwire and could control the fate of the WiMax provider. With Sprint’s 4G network using Clearwire’s technology, we can assume Sprint will be keeping them around- unless Sprint has other plans without Clearwire in the picture. Either way it looks like it’s going to be a rocky year ahead for the wireless technology company.
