Samsung Windows Phone 7 phones can tether at launch

Despite announcements that Windows Phone 7 phones won’t support tethering at launch, some crafty folks have proven them wrong. Using a Samsung WP7 phone, you can tether with it right out of the box. All you have to do is to enter a code to get into a test mode, connect your phone to your PC, install the drivers and you’re good to go. At the moment this only works with the Samsung Focus or Omnia 7 (the two Samsung WP7 phones at launch). Tethering your phone is the act of hooking your phone up to a device (i.e. your desktop/laptop) and so that it can access the internet through your phone. Think of it as a portable modem. If you’re interested in enabling tether with your Samsung WP7 phone, hit the break for step by step instructions.

1)      Dial ##634# to get the phone into test mode
2)      Dial *#7284#
3)      Select “Modem, Tethered Call”
4)      The phone will restart
5)      Connect the phone to your PC using the USB cable and install the drivers on your PC
6)      You should now see the phone modem which means all you need to do is set up your internet details and you should be good to go
