Rumor: Nexus S delayed because of Gingerbread

Apparently, previous rumors that the Android 2.3 (a.k.a. Gingerbread) software development kit had a planned release date of November 11 were supposed to be true. Yesterday was the day, but the SDK didn’t show up. According to some sources, the reason for this delay is due to fact that Samsung had previously finished the Nexus S, but they wanted to release a dual-core phone to compete with all the dual-core phones that will be coming out next year. So they scrapped the phone and came up with a new Nexus S phone with a dual-core processor. Here’s where the problem starts- Android 2.3 wasn’t optimized for dual-core processors, and when put on the new Nexus S, it didn’t give them the performance they wanted. Because Samsung couldn’t afford to release a flagship phone that wasn’t working at its best, Google went back to the drawing board in order to optimize the OS for dual-core processors- hence the SDK not turning up at the November 11 party. With Google working on optimizing Android, it looks like the Nexus S will be delayed until the situation changes. Sounds like a very plausible rumor. What are your thoughts on the Gingerbread delay?
