Open your garage door with your Android phone

It looks like Android is catching up to Apple’s vision of having an app for everything. Some folks have discovered how to turn an Android phone into a remote control for opening their garage door. Though it’s not as simple as just downloading an app and changing some settings, it involves a few more steps like hooking up a computer with a relay switch to the garage door’s control. The app works by sending commands over the internet to the computer, which transmits the instructions to the relay switch that tells the garage door control to open or close it. Sounds pretty nifty eh? The app even ties in with the phone’s GPS function so that you won’t be able to accidentally open your garage door if you’re miles away from home. Maybe one day an app like this will become viable and easy to market, but for now it looks like you’ll have to study how it works if you want to set it up yourself.
