CEO of NEC Casio Mobile has recently announced that they will be entering the smartphone race. The company that is essentially a collaboration between NEC, Hitachi and Casio (though we don’t know why Hitachi’s name was left out of the group’s name), will be manufacturing Android phones to enter the smartphone market in early 2011. NEC Casio Mobile is hoping to sell 6 million smartphones worldwide by 2012- a huge number for a relatively unknown mobile phone company, especially when they aim to have at least 60% of their sales from out of Japan. As usual, a new player in the smartphone world just means more devices for consumers to choose from, and that is always a good thing. It’d be interesting to see what NEC Casio Mobile will come up with in the future. Let’s see if three heads are better than one (or two).
