Motorola’s Android phone with an interesting form factor that was released early this year finally receives its long overdue operating system update- and it’s not even Froyo. AT&T and Motorola have announced on their customer support dashboard today that as of today, 1000 volunteers will be getting the 2.1 update. The update will be released to everybody else starting November 9th. The interesting thing about the update is that it won’t be delivered over the air, but it will be a sideloaded one instead. This means that Backflip users will have to use their computers to update their phones, and this also allows users to update their phones through someone else who receives the update earlier- a pretty good idea if you ask me. Eliminating the need to download an update over the air saves time for everybody. So if you’re still using your Backflip, break out the champagne, the wait’s over!
