iOS 4.2 GM has arrived
The Golden Master version of iOS 4.2 has finally arrived. The GM version of a software is the almost final build of a software which signifies that a final public release will be arriving soon. The release of iOS 4.2 will unify the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad under the same operating system for the first time- this will make the job for app developers easier in the future. The new version of iOS is mostly focused on improving the iPad as the rest of their devices have been enjoying new features since iOS 4.1 which was released more than a month ago. iOS 4.2 sees the return of the Youtube for AirPlay- you can now stream Youtube videos over AirPlay. AirPlay also gets new multi-tasking bar bar controls- you can now control the brightness and the volume from the task bar itself. It also provides a new Apple ID login page for MobileMe, but it doesn’t seem to be working at the moment, so it is unconfirmed what its purpose is. iOS 4.2 also brings features such as multi-tasking to the iPad, but it still hasn’t fixed proximity sensor issues with the iPhone yet. Hopefully this will be addressed after launch. The iOS 4.2 update should be out sometime this month, stay tuned for more details.
