Good news if you’re in living in Europe and frequently travel around the continent. In an attempt to unite the European nations into a domestic market, Silvana Koch-Mehrin, a German politician is pushing for the motion to abolish roaming charges for calls in Europe. This would mean that calls made from European countries to other European countries won’t cost more than local calls. Apparently the need for surcharges aren’t justified anymore, since there are around 500 million mobile users in Europe and the network technology has grown by leaps and bounds, and especially when some operators have networks in a few different European countries. The proposal will be considered by the European Commission and if approved, it will be put into effect by the end of 2011. With the advent of VoIP technology, I wonder if people really make regular long distance calls anymore. How often do you call people in another country?
